If at first you don't succeed...

Try, try again.

Its true of many things, but that old saying comes to mind today as I have once again been unable to get photos of the pair of Little Wattlebirds who have been courting each other in my gardens.

I spent about fourty minutes carefully stalking the pair around the prickly Grevillea Scarlet Sprite they were taking nectar from.

Realizing it was time to pack it in for the morning, I retreated to the kitchen to make a cuppa. While I waited for the kettle, the male perched on the faucet handle, and the female nearby him. Quickly, I picked up the camera and shot through the window. Dang! The shutter lag in my Kodak DX6490 failed me once again. Crumbs!

This afternoon when they return, I will just set up in the kitchen and try, try again.

Not long ago I joked that I had so many shots without birds in them that I was going to publish a book:
"Empty Perch Portraits"

Oooh, I don't have 'Little' Wattlebirds Lavender! We have two Red ones building a nest out the back and I too haven't got recent photographs of them. They are VERY difficult to photograph and VERY clever! We'll both get shots eventually :)

Lavender, about the birdless photos book plan I have to smile. I like your "Crumbs" expression. Too bad about the wattlebirds but they are indeed very small. Good luck to your photo hunt may you be successful next time.

Anon - Ah, then its not just me then, thats a relief! :) I hope you get some great shots of your Red ones this season - maybe you will get super lucky with some fledglings - fingers crossed!

Ces - Glad you got a smile and Thanks for your wishes! Its 330pm as I write this, so soon it is time to camp out over the kitchen sink and wait for them - hope they are not so clever that they see me and decide to do thier dance elsewhere lol!

I had the same problems trying to photograph a Kingfisher. I'm the proud owner of a fine collection of twig pictures!

It sounds like you need one of those huts where you can sit and spy on the birds.

Hi Barkfoot, Kingfishers are cool birds, I hope you got your shot eventually.

Hi Captain - Yes, a hide sounds like it could be very handy, Ta!
