Interesting, boring, and kinda gross

That is the interesting bit above. See, I want to experiment with infra-red photography - without doing surgery on my camera.

I could spend $60 for a filter which will give near-infra-red effects...$60 bucks!...they're dreamin'! And they want about that much for the fabled 'neutral density filter' that I would use alot more, and covet hotly.

All of which explains why the other day there was the shot with the red cellophane over the lens (just held on with a rubber band), and now today: this is a combo of red and dark blue cellophane, its getting there, dont 'cha think? Curiosity may also be a mother of invention.

All that could also constitute the 'boring' content too, depending on which way you are inclined.

Whatever.

Check out the colours of the bricks and sky - no post-processing here.

And for the gore lovers out there, heres my incision. It is nearly two inches long, keyhole surgery is for wimps! Beats me why they just steri-stripped it back together instead of tying a few stiches, (probably a cost cutting measure).

Remember the Gymea Lily?

Last year I chronicled the blooming of our backyard Gymea Lily. Here she is in all her faded glory, covered in open seed pods. Still lovely to my eyes.

Doryanthes Excelsa: Gymea or Spear Lily: Bigger than a breadbox

So here you go, BetteJo - and anyone else who was wondering - its bigger than a 2 litre bottle. The Most DH kindly held it for me to shoot, but being it was so early in the morning, the photo was pretty crap (both bottle and lily appeared entirely black). I had some fun messing with it in PSP6, now we can tell what we are looking at, and I like the alternate colours as well.

Doryanthes Excelsa: Gymea or Spear Lily: Luminous Wax

BetteJo has asked for some info on the size of this thing - and so we took a pic with an object for scale - but its a pretty crap pic LOL Let me mess with it and post it next time, Ta!

Doryanthes Excelsa: Gymea or Spear Lily: emerging bud

From the crepe-like outer layer, the smooth bud emerges. This photo looks like I might have compressed the file a tad too much - mea culpa.

Something wicked this way comes!

Egads! Ive been waiting for Rainbow Lorikeets and misc. Honeyeaters like our Little Wattle Birds to come and enjoy the Gymea Lily - but this Sulphur Crested Cockatoo and I had a Mexican stand off over it yesterday....I prevailed....but for how long?

Doryanthes Excelsa: Gymea or Spear Lily: "The Bloom-ening"

Wandered out the back door to check on our bud last Wednesday - and whadda ya know? But of course the shy little moppet wants to bloom facing away from me. Very well then, you want to play hard to get - then I just get my 'long nose' lens and shoot you from below.

You cant hide from my powerful zoom! But you can surprise me with how pink the lily itself is. Wont it be a sight when they have all emerged?

Doryanthes Excelsa: Gymea or Spear Lily, Part 4

This pic taken a month later, April 22nd. It hasnt grown much in size, but wasps are checking it daily and looking for a way in, and a blush of red is just beginning to colour it.

Doryanthes Excelsa: Gymea or Spear Lily, Part 3

This photo was taken on March 24th. Now we have a proper bud forming at the top of the spear. Notice my neighbor's rooftops in the background?

Shot from above. Can hardly wait till it blooms. You can bet I will have the camera ready for it. Amazing plant!
