Dendrobium Linguiforme "Feather Orchid"

Another Australian Native Orchid, Dendrobium Linguiforme is often called the feather orchid. One look at its flowers tells you why. We grow this just like D. Striolatum, mounted to a slab of timber under a tree.

This picture was taken when it bloomed this time last year. This years buds were all eaten by those pesky slugs and snails. You can bet next year there will be a nasty surprise waiting for those blighters when this sets bud again!

Hhehheee, Lavender as a "nasty surprise"! These are beautiful and delicate, ideal filling for a bride's native bouquet! I should adorn some of my feathers too, but the SLUGS got them first!

Hahaha! Must be a good year for slugs, hope that blue tongue lizard comes back again this year - he will knock down the population for me! Hey these would be great in bridal bouqets...when I was a bride here I carried a single king protea flower - I figured if things went pear shaped - I could use it as a club to fight my way out!! :)

Between your blog and Anonymous's (I think Anonymous is blogging from Australia too)blog I'm convinced Australia is the place to be!

So many different birds and plant/flowers how lucky you are!

This is a lovely flower and so is the Pencil Orchid in the previous post. So the slugs/snails love beautiful flowers too!

I pay good money to visit the botanical gardens, but you seem to have it for free everyday right in your back garden....lucky you!

Barkfoot Tehehe, we are pretty lucky, arent we? The difference in the flora and fauna of our hemispheres is incredible, it never ceases to amaze me, Cheers!

Hey Lavender, my wife loves orchids. She has some nice ones growing back in her hometown. I'm gonna get her to visit you site. I'm sure she'll get a blast at the pix you have here ...

Bait those slugs with snail and slug pellets so we can see more blooms Lavender. This orchid is so funky. If I were an orchid, I'd like to be a feather orchid, wild looking but I don't want to be devoured by snails. Eeek!

The 'feather' look is really effective.

Ces - I have to be very careful with those snail pellets, as we sometimes have a large lizard called the Blue Tounge who likes to eat those slimy critters - but eating poisoned ones isnt very good for them. Trouble is, I dont know if 'our' blue tongue wintered here or not, havent seen him yet this spring - fingers crossed! I liked having a free range pest controller around last summer! :)

Captain - what other orchid for a birdy person? (Tehehe, only thought of that this morning.)
