Nest Watch, day 8

Saturday morning, still two eggs. The clutch is now complete and she will begin to sit. The top egg has what looks like a slight crack at its wide end, Im hoping its just an optical illusion. I love the way the sunshine makes the eggs appear to glow in this shot. Have a great day everyone!

That is an absolutely beautiful photo! :) How much longer til they are supposed to hatch?

Ive read that the Little Wattle Birds average clutch size is three, but two is good enough!

Hi Education Blogger Thank you! They should hatch about the 14th of October, fingers crossed!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting :)

They are just GLOWING! Lets hope what appears to be a crack is just a bit of extra calcium. Wouldn't she throw it away, or leave it for the other chick's breakfast one day if cracked?

That's a super close shot. I can just imagine you stalking the nest, boot polish on face, covered in scrim and mouth full of grass!

Anon I was wondering what she will do with the empty shells, I plan to look for them after the chicks hatch - unless she does recycle them - the budgies sometimes do, (it seems to be a personal choice for them) If this egg is truly cracked, I dont know what she will do with it, but my first guess is that she will sit on it till she is absolutely sure its not viable.....Im waiting patiently to see!! :)

Barkfoot LOL For this close up, I had to stick my head so far into the tree that my mouth was full of tree! And when I got back inside I found a yuckky looking spider in my hair - so Id say my 'cammo' was exceptionally good this time tehehe!

Well you know how I feel about spiders so I am doubly impressed with this shot! Gorgeous!

The crack looks like a bit of extra fold in the shell, like the ones I see in the eggs I use for Sunny Side Up or Over Easy. Pretty cool Lavender. You and Anon are makiing me feel like an expectant parent.
