12 days old, Little Wattle Bird chicks

I shot from further out for these, and as they didnt flinch I think I avoided making them overly nervous.

But just before I sat down to write this, I observed Mommy & Daddy Wattle Bird above the nest making loud calls. The volume is significant, as up to this point they have always 'spoken' softly to the chicks. I think they are encouraging the chicks to exercise those tender wings, if not outright leave the nest.

So prepare yourselves folks, our little Little Wattle Birds will be leaving the nest soon.

How exciting Lavender!!!! I wouldn't be surprised if they stayed in your garden, I've known the same family of the Red parents for more than ten years now :) Can't tell these photos were taken from further away ...

They are so adorable! The pure black eyes remind me of Mooky when he was a juvenile. I'm sure you're right about them leaving soon... it's sad but that's nature!

How fortunate you have been to observe them... actually I'm a bit envious.

For some reason I'm nervous about this, although I reckon they'll be fine.

Lavender, if I were the little wattle bird, I will stay in the nest until I am 18 and leave when my wattle parents buy me a car and pay for my own nest. Hahaha!
