11 days old, Little Wattle Birds

Cramped but cozy. They have reached what I call 'awareness' now. Ive seen this with budgie and finch chicks too, it goes like this: thier eyes open and they are curious about who I am/what Im doing. They almost seem glad to see me - probally because there is little else to do. But one day, you visit and they appear afraid. Suddenly they are 'aware' that youre not a bird and therefore possibly a threat. Either that or Mum or Dad has had a talk with them, LOL!

I will try to shoot from further out from here so I dont stress them. Looking at those beautiful new glossy feathers, it wont be long before they are exercising thier wings!

How can I say "they appear afraid"? Well, they flinched, tried to sink thru the bottom of the nest, and then totally motionless - Ah well, fear of people is not a totally bad thing.
With budgies and finches, personality dictates whether or not they loose thier fear of me over time, so all is not lost tehehe

Okay, these are not LITTLE wattle birds now. Can you imagine if human babies grew that fast? Amazing, just like your photos!!

Their new feathers looks like new baby skin...so fresh....I wonder why one day they know to be afraid...

Hello Lavender! Because you have been watching the babies each day (even before hatched), you have most probably acquired the instincts of a Mother! HAHA!! Again love the photos and the post below. The second one above is warm in colouring and emotion :) *tweet*!

BetteJo LOL - Big Little Wattle Birds! LOL
If human babies grew that fast - holy mackerel - thatd be scary!! Eeeep!

Pawhealer I wondered too how this happens, that one day they are just afraid....In thier case Id suspect that they learn it from watching thier parents reaction to finding me at the nest...but since it also happens with my budgie chicks, who have parents who are not afraid of me....well, I think its just all part of growing up.....maybe...sounds good anyway tehehehe

Anon Tehehe Maybe Im the godmother hahaha! Took todays photos further out - hope they came out alright, dreary day here...that colouring thing is my wacko camera - the warm colour ones are from one side of the nest, and the off coloured ones are from the other side of the nest....silly wacko camera...grumble grumble :(

The nest looks quite occupied; it might soon be time to go out into the wide world.

I wonder if these little birds, will feel a special bond with you? I have a feeling you already have a special bond with them.

Hardwax I hope they will, and, youre right, I really am quite attached to them - I even stared down a Currawong till he flew off - I didnt want any chick eating meanie to find that nest! LOL
