New Quarry?

I am frequently teased by Australian Butterflys. They flit through the gardens so quickly that I usually miss them. Ive decided they are next on my 'must photo' list.

I dont even know the names of the Aussie butterflys, so there is much to learn. My local library has a few volumes on them, but they are all in the reference section, so I have to find a day to sit at the library and study this new quarry.

This little one was sheltering on the Salvia Farinacea during a stormy day. Its quite tiny, Id estimate it to only be about 15mm (1/2 inch) from wing tip to wing tip. On a sunny day they appear to be quite blue, while on this grey day, the colours are much more earthy. At this time of year they are abundant in the garden, flying low over the lawn, often in pairs.

I look forward to learning its name, and if possible, what its caterpillar looks like, and making the garden even more attractive to all the butterflys. Then perhaps they will stay a little longer, and let me get thier photo.

This is going to be fun Lavender!!! The photograph is so soft and pretty - the butterfly and flower :) A library isn't a bad place to spend Summer either. It's HOT today!

Anon Its a stinker of a day! But still good to see the sun again! :)
I had my lens within a centimeter of the little dear, I think the camera thought the soft focus effect would suit Hahahaha
Too bad the drought finished off my Buddelia last year, they used to love that! Perhaps a new one is in order?! :) And yes, the library would be a good place to beat the heat - clever cookie!!

That is a wonderful picture - made even more amazing by the fact that the butterfly is so small! I never would have guessed.

BetteJo So very tiny!!! I could hardly believe my luck that he stayed still so long for me...I think just because it was a cool grey day and he was too cold to fly away! :)

Fantastic shot! The butterfly almost blends with the flower. Looking forward to seeing more.

Butterflies are little terrors when you try and photo them. When they're flying they're all over the place and when they finally settle, they go and close their wings. You're doing well to get that little chap so nice and clear.
