Musk Lorikeet

Another first time sighting late yesterday - a Musk Lorikeet! Again it was hearing an unfamiliar call that caused me to grab the camera and go on the prowl. It pays to keep your ears open, at least whenever the evil neighbor isnt playing his Ghetto Throb "music".

And the King Parrot was back this morning, but flew off when he saw the camera coming. I think all these 'new' birds lately are stopping for the Mistletoe thats growing in both our gum tree and a neighbors bottlebrush.
Keep you ears open and your camera charged :)

WOW GREAT spotting Lavender! They are supposed to be around here but always way up in the canopies, so I only hear them :) I will take your advise and have camera ready and for 'the' King too! Although we don't have Mistletoe ... :)) EXCELLENT!

I never hear anything. But then, all the birds around here are boring.

BetteJo Aw Crumbs! Well, keep an ear open anyway - you never know when someone will come by - especially if you put out a feeder in winter - course then, you might have to worry about squirrels too - they always make it tricky!

I love reading that you grab the camera when you hear something new! Must be a joy to see a new bird in the backyard. Keep listening and keep grabbing (that camera). Thanks for sharing. Did you celebrate you own little Thanksgiving over there?

Ces It is a joy to spot these beautys - no doubt there...and even when they are less colourful species - I enjoy the 'hunt' for them! It also makes a very good break from desk or domestic duties! :) :)
Id forgotten all about Thanksgiving this year - joked with hubby that I must really be Aussie now! TEhehehehe

Nice shots. Your camera must be wonderful but you also have a good eye to see such beauty and then capture it. I have parrotts all throughout my backyard because of the national park and there beautiful colours light up my day.
