Wild Ginger

A recent excursion took us through the Royal National Park, where we spotted this interesting plant growing along the side of the road. I think its a wild ginger, but couldnt be sure. I didnt venture into the brush to investigate, but was happy to just have spied it.

Have an adventurous day!

I certainly wouldn't have had even a guess as to what that is. Nice color against the green!

BetteJo Sure made it easy to spot! Ive learned alot of new plants since coming here, and this looks like ginger to me - but untill I find an expert, Im just guessing! :)

Did it smell like ginger? Our ginger plant have yellow flowers and are the most aromatic! I love the tree in the background.

Hiya Ces! I couldnt smell it, and didnt want to risk wading into the brush to get very close (time for snales and that sort to start waking up in these parts!!!) But there are many forms of ginger - especially over here closer to asia - I bet the yellow flowered one you have is divine! Is it an culinary variety? I often chew ginger for stomach trouble - it helps alot.

I put your pic up. Normally I crop to make those pics square, I blur the edges and stuff, but I didn't want to obliterate your signature. Signature is small - but it's there!
Thanks for letting me use your pic!

Hi Lavender, thanks for doing some Ks for me :) I'm in a dumbdumb stupor right now, but is it okay for me to send your photograph to an expert?

BetteJo No worries Mate! Small sig. is fine - I put it on the pics just to annoy people who arent polite like you are :) Im very glad you liked it!

Anon By all means - Id love to know more about it - I hope the photo is clear enough for them to have a good shot at it....is your stupor party related? Hope you all had a great Bday celebration.

Thanks! Sending right now ... stupor is from lack of sleep ... delusional now!

Oh Anon, thats right, you had an adventure last night - of the un-fun kind. Hope tonight is better for all!

Yes, the ginger is the edible variety and you are right about ginger aiding in the digestion and absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. By the way, as a child, my Mother always made fresh ginger ale when I got sick. I have come to relate ginger with comfort and love.

Aw Ces, me too! My mother had migraines (worse than mine) and on the third day she could take flat ginger ale and saltine crackers - then she'd ask me to put my cold hands on her forehead, and she'd be better a few hours after that...here with hubby, we brew 'ginger beer' which is rather like cloudy ginger ale. You can make it just as a fizzy ginger drink, or you can ferment it for a different type of 'medicinal compound' LOL

A well taken picture captures the park spirit here.

Thanks Captain! We had an excellent day having a mini-adventure.

Lavender, your plant IS an exotic ginger plant! It is a declared weed and is being eradicated during bush regenerating :) I am alive ...

Aha, I pegged it in one! Tehehe
Im very glad to have that info Anon, THANK YOU!!! I had begun to contemplate sourcing one for the garden - but knowing this, I will give it a miss!
Sounds like you still need more rest - I hope you get some today Mate!

The clarity of the photo, and the sun drenched scene. Gorgeous, whatever it is!

Thanks Hardwax! It was like a little beacon in the greenery, had to stop for a snap.
