Nest Watch, day 4

Now she has begun to add the soft lining to the nest. It wont be long now.

Mr Little Wattle Bird is watching me photo the nest, and he doesnt look too impressed, does he?

What you cant see in the pic is some of my hair is in this nest! I always empty my hairbrush into our compost pile, and shes clearly been in there in her hunt for materials. How cool is that? What you can see tho is some dog hair from the neighbors Jack Russel terrier LOL!

Ooooh, the Little's nest is a lot more delicately built than the Reds! VERY cool your hair is in their Lavender! Mr Little is throwing daggers at your camera with his eyes!

TEHEHE Anon, yes! He was seething...it is an honour to have bit of me in the nest! The coconut fibre disappeared - we will see if it found its way there as well (though someone else may have found it first). Loving Spring!!!

There's something really nice about having your hair included in a nest. A few years back I had an old feather duvet that had been destroyed by my pet rat, rather than wasting the contents I emptied all the feathers out at the top of the garden. It was spring, and all the local birds had a field day collecting for their nests.
When filming/ photograghing wildlife I've noticed that often birds try and 'sus' out whether you are a predator or not. To put them at ease, a bunch of long grass placed in the mouth and pretend chewing makes them believe your a herbivour. Worth a go as long as you don't mind the neighbours thinking your mad!

This is wonderful Lavender. What a great series. I am so excited. You have to go undercover if only to capture the next scenes. I want to see the baby wattles. Oooohhhh! I am excited.

P.S. Have I been gone that long? I see you have posted quite a bit. I hate it when I miss many posts.

Keeping my fingers crossed for the wattle family.

BTW. You are lovable and that was funny about the blonde roots. Hah!

Love seeing the progression from day to day! I would be excited if a bird grabbed some of my hair for their nest too! How cool!

Barkfoot I bet your pet rat loved rummaging thru his feathery kingdom LOL! Great idea to send the feathers back - Onya!
I can try the herbage idea - Why not? And since the neighbors already know Im mad as the Hatter himself - no worries Mate! :)

Hardwax Watching me like a hawk! LOL These birds are very smart and usually know when Ive got a camera in my hand and dissappear! But since they have a nest involved - well, I guess Ive found the best time to get pics of them :)

Ces Im so hoping to see chicks too, that would be so cool! Please dont worry about missing posts, I can hardly keep up with my faves either! And Thank you very very much, Mwah! Mwah!

BetteJo Glad youre enjoying it too, Im having a blast and also really hoping it goes well for them. Id love a happy ending to the story for us all!
