Lovely Bearded Iris

Katie was the little old lady who lived next door. For several years we admired each others gardens and swapped plants and cuttings. When the day came that she had to leave her home, she sent a box of mixed bearded iris rhizomes over the fence. This one was among them.

Katie, if youre out there, the garden is going well and we miss you.

Thanks Anon! She was a good friend and a skilled gardener. The kind of person that is a pleasure to remember....hope the day is as nice where you are as it is here today, just lovely!

Indeed a beautiful and regal color. But what a nice lady to leave the irises to you.

She was sure swell...her mandarin tree would fruit, and she'd hang a bag of them on the fence for us, then we'd send a box of our chickens' eggs over, and back and forth all kinds of stuff went over that old fence - with Katie gone on that side, and Alfio gone from the other - theres no more produce going over the fence, shame that....oh well - Ive gotten rambling, perhaps its time for a cuppa? :)

What a nice lady - and a truly beautiful flower!

Thanks BetteJo...these bearded iris do really well for me in this hot dry garden - they are tough as old boots, but much prettier, of course :)

Maybe you will have new neighbors who will exchange bundt cakes and apple pies with you? :-) We do that here too. Sometimes when I go grocery shopping I buy extra fruits or some muffins from the bakery for my neighbors and I love to see the delight in their faces. Once, as a joke my husband bought a can of eel sardines for his friend and to my surprise, he ate it! Eeeeewl! :-)

This is stunning! What a lovy gift from your friend. It must ahve made it a little easier for her to elave her home knowing that things would live on with you.

Ces, EWWWWWW! Hahaha! Well he was feeling adventurous, wasnt he? I dont mind the occasional sardine, (which totally grosses out my Hubby) but Eeels? Nope, I think I can miss that experience tehehe
The new neighbors are a nice young family, and they have a Rainbow Lorikeet (and two little dogs)
Our lot is an odd shape, and so we share fence lines with five other houses. Two neighbors are nice, one mediocre, and one is the devil himself - we dream of a property in the country where we can pretend we are the last two people on earth tehehe One Day! :)
