Early birthday present makes Butt hurt

Haha! Hows that for an attention getting headline?

Now, all you dirty minded persons out there - you see from the pic that I mean Ive got 'bike butt'. Its only been 23 years since I rode a bike, 17 for The Most DH, he got one too!

Yep, 23 years since my Japanese Aluminium Racing bike was stolen. It was a Kabuki, and I loved it like a dear friend. I still do a double take when I see an orange metal-flake coloured racing bike go by. I used to literally fly all over my hometown - and well beyond - spending entire days in the saddle.

Its true, you never forget how to ride a bike. But you do forget how much its going to hurt the parts you sit on! Funny, that. Only one thing for it, keep riding and it will all come good.

While our butts build tolerance (and my quads stop turning to jelly) we are just sticking to the neighborhood. Eventually, we are going to have wonderful days on trails in National Parks and anywhere around the countryside. A backpack with the camera and a picnic lunch - and we're off!

We are making a committment to riding these bikes daily and getting our fitness back. Its not all going to be fun, but we are determined. Do you need to make a similar change? You can if you want to! Get determined, and keep at it no matter how much your butt hurts in the process.

This is my 100th post on Blogger!
To celebrate, Im getting on my bike!

Currently we are "4 for 3" meaning 4 rides in 3 days. A little further each day, and it wont be long!
The Aussie expression "On your bike!"....does that mean 'get out of here' or 'get back to work' or 'stop pulling my leg'....or what???

HAHHAHAAA, "onya bike" means "get outta here" Lavender!!! "Get outta here" can also mean "you are too funny!"! Happy 100th post and enjoy your new butt (bottom or behind) :)

Hahaha! Thanks for that Anon!
Im looking at some bubble wrap and wondering if I could make some underpants out of it! ROFL!

Congratulations on your 100th post, a few Aussie bloggers have made that milestone this week :)

My husband and I actually went out and bought ourselves some bikes last night for my birthday too. I had not thought of the butt problem, I am worried now. I haven't ridden a bike since I was really young, I rode horses as a teen instead..they have much better padding LOL

Good luck with your cycling :)

Hhehheheee, are you sure the bubbles won't go "pop" by the time you are around the first corner Lavender? That could leave you in an akward position - and isn't the bubblewrap SEE-THROUGH!?!

Leigh Thank you very much!
It must be the beautiful spring like weather inspiring all these birthday bikes, lol. Hope you and yours have tons of fun as well! As for the bike butt, well, all I can say is I hope yours isnt as bad as mine - and it cant last forever - thankfully. Cheers!

Congrats on the 100th posting Lavender.

I can't even recall the last time I rode a bike. Don't even know if I can still ride a bike. I wonder if that old saying, 'it's like riding a bicycle, once you learn, you can never forget' (or thats as close to the saying that I can remember).

Yipper its true Nick! You really do remember!
Thanks for the congrats!

Haha! Lavender, Happy early Birthday to you. I know what you mean about hurting butts, that is why when I got a new Trek, I specified a wide seat. Boy, did that help a lot. Hahha!

Happy Birthday to you dear Lavender!

Happy 100th post, Lavender! I have never been able to ride a bike myself. I have no balance.

I know how you feel about bike butt. My wife and I purchased bikes a few years ago, we hadn't been on a bike in ages. Well, you know the rest of the story. I immediately went a bought new seats - about the size that you would see on a farm tractor. Problem solved. Oh, congratulations on hitting the big 100!

I thought I would die after my first spin class last fall. You are right about the bike butt!

Thanks for visiting today. I've made it around to a few of the TBM blogs, but I really should take some time to visit like you did!

I love biking! I used to ride almost daily and then 50 miles on both Saturday & Sunday. I stopped riding for years. About a year ago Bill & I started riding on Sundays. We venture off down paths & streets for hours. Bill is a painter of Urban Scenes... so we find ourselves following railroad tracks, alley ways etc.

As for the butt it eventually stops hurting as I'm sure you know!

Hi Sharon! My butt is getting better, LOL! Im so looking forward to getting out like in the old days - go anywhere for hours on end - and I keep that firmly in my mind as we circle our hilly neighborhood - 'keep your eyes on the prize' is my mantra!
I hope you and Bill have a fantastic ride this sunday!
