Battered Butterfly

Having a breather on a shrub, this battered butterfly must be counting his lucky stars he escaped whatever claimed a piece of his wing.

The underside of the wings was a lovely pattern in oranges, but he would only show me those as he flew away. I dont know what sort of butterfly he is, and havent yet had time to try to find out - so its over to you - sing out if you know his name.

*************** This just in *********************

Thanks to Melanie of Creating Nunde I have learned that this is a female Caper White (Belenois java) Butterfly on migration - Thanks Melanie!!

Poor thing, life's kind of dangerous in your garden with all these wattle birds eh? :-) Don't know who he is though...

just when I was looking clever I go and push the POST button twice and I had no idea it leaves a message " comment deleted" when you get rid of your double up. Dont panic at the comment deleted post, it wasnt anyone nefarious saying bad stuff about Harry, just me being to clicky with the mouse

LOL no worries Melanie! Sounds exactly like something that would happen to me in the same situation! Well done! :)

I'm amazed at how much wing butterflies can lose and still fly just fine. The local cats are forever taking swipes at the ones in my garden, but they still keep on going like a World War 2 bomber limping home with half it's wing shot away...

Barkfoot LOL great analogy there - they are definately on a mission! :)
